“Do you know where you’d go if you died tonight?”

Just imagine: One minute I’m in the St. Louis Rams’ locker room celebrating with my teammates after we beat Philadelphia for the NFC Championship, and the next thing I know this reporter is asking me about my eternal destiny —on live radio! I fumbled through my answer, but afterwards it really made me think. Perhaps it was time I got serious about God.

I had grown up in a Christian home, but I had never taken God all that seriously. I believed in him—enough to know that I should be afraid of him—but I had never made him the foundation for my life. For me, football was everything. I didn’t have time for God.

After that night, however, things began to change. I started praying all the time—before every game, before every snap, even when I was on the bench. That made a huge difference in my life, especially when things weren’t going my way.

I’m still afraid of God today, but it’s a healthy fear, one that comes from knowing He is the most powerful being in the universe. Knowing this, I don’t need to be afraid of anything else—including the question of where I will go after I die—because I know I will go to be with Him.
